Cytometry

Cytometry literally means "the measurement of cells". Measuring cells is key to good cell biology and good tools are required to enable good measurement. BioStatus is a long‐term supporter of the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry - ISAC - an organisation that promotes all aspects of good cell biology and organisations who are involved in developing associated technologies.

One of our Founders, Prof Paul Smith, is a past President of the Society. Paul is a non-executive director at BioStatus and often responds personally to customer queries and technical issues.

Flow cytometry allows reliable analysis of cell phenotypes and is a workhorse technique in immunology, haematology, research and clinical diagnosis.

The cell‐permeant DNA dyes DRAQ5™ and CyTRAK Orange™ make it easy to discriminate nucleated from enucleated cells reducing time consuming sample prep’ while skipping the need for RBC lysis. This is great for precious or small samples.

Stoichiometric DNA labeling with DRAQ5™ will give you cell cycle status, ploidy and proliferation (S‐phase fraction) info without the hassle of permeabilization or RNase treatment.

The far‐red viability dye DRAQ7™ allows identification or exclusion of apoptotic, damaged or dead cells.

Laser Scanning Cytometry combines laser illumination of cells for fluorescent signals of phenotype, light scatter and classical morphology to give population statistics.

Cell‐permeant DRAQ5™ or CyTRAK Orange™ are the easy to use nuclear counterstains. They act as an object “trigger” and allow segmentation of nuclei. Stoichiometric DNA dye DRAQ5™ permits DNA content / cell cycle analysis of slide‐ mounted cells.

DRAQ7™ viability dye to monitor cell integrity, sample quality or cell death/damage resulting from treatment.

CyGEL™ and CyGEL Sustain™ can be used to immobilize living organisms, tissues and cells to allow reliable measurements.

Imaging flow cytometry (Amnis Imagestream or Flowsight instruments) is a novel technology combining flow cytometry with in‐flow imaging to permit morphological analysis of populations cell‐by‐cell.

Proven nuclear counterstains DRAQ5™ or CyTRAK Orange™ can act both as an object “trigger” and allow segmentation of nuclei for similarity and expression measurements.

The far‐red viability dye DRAQ7™ makes it easy to identify dead and apoptotic cells in your multi‐colour experiments.

Flow cytometry permits reliable analysis of cell phenotypes and is a workhorse technique in immunology, haematology, research and clinical diagnosis.

Cell-permeant DNA dyes can be used to discriminate nucleated from anucleated cells reducing the need for time-consuming and potentially damaging RBC lysis reagents, which can be important for precious or small samples.

Further, stoichiometric DNA labeling can further provide information on cell cycle status, ploidy and proliferation (S-phase fraction) without permeabilization or RNase treatment.

Clinical samples often need a viability dye to evaluate sample integrity on analysis.
