DRAQ5 is demonstrated as a key component to allow unsupervised automation of the micronucleus assay to assess genotoxicity. The fluorescent dyes DRAQ5 and Hoechst are used in combination to delineate the cytoplasm, and thereby, reliably identify bi-nuclei/micronuclei, respectively.
